I could not put the book down. My family read it after me. The book is about Betty Eadie's journey through death and beyond. What she saw when she was dead before she was brought back to life. Amazing little book.

I think its a good take on the near death experience. The part I didn't really like was the religious emphasis but alot of what was written sans her personal sensation of dying and coming back , I felt I had read it before in other new age books.
It has wonderful detail and gives hope to its readers that we are here for a reason and not just randomly.

Embraced by the Light is an inspirational map of the afterlife framed in the moment of Eadie's death, and presents a possible answer to the big question, "Why are we here?" An easy read, its subtitle could have been "The Average Person's Guide to Near-Death Experiences." Although heavily filtered through Eadie's Christian worldview, her vision of the afterlife does not include a wrathful deity, but a figure of love and compassion. Some readers may find Eadie's repeated Christian references bothersome, and Embraced by the Light will undoubtedly raise a lot of questions along the lines of "What about reincarnation?" and "What happens to people who are not Christians?"
I don't necessarily disagree with, or discount Ms. Eadie's book, I merely believe we must all reach our own truths....

Eadie died at age 31 after surgery. During the time she was clinically dead, she alleges to have traveled through the spirit realm learning about the laws of nature and the history of the universe. The angels and other spiritual beings explained to her the reasons why different individuals chose to be on the earth and to accomplish certain acts. Her vision includes insights into the question, "Why are we here?" Our souls chose to come to the earth at certain times to be united with families that we had been soul mates with earlier in the spiritual realm, she explains. Perhaps her most intriguing insight regards the fall of humankind. "Eve did not sin because she was tempted but because she so desperately wanted to become the mother of mankind," she states. Much of her story is similar to other near-death experiences. However, she obviously includes many of her personal views about religious philosophy

This was an intriguing book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and it really opens your mind up to the possibilities of what our lives might be like when we leave these earthly bodies. I would recommend it to anyone with an open mind.

I was so impressed with this one I had to find and read the next two.
Also found her Daily Devotional and have given it as a gift to my daughter.
Her words are an inspiration. Something we really need now when we are so depressed by the daily news and world events.

I love this book! It is so interesting and contains information on what awaits us on the other side of life! I especially loved the library on the other side as you can 'read' a book just by picking it up and concentrating on it! Wish I could do the same thing on this side!!!

Very fascinating true life experience of near death experiences. I have read and re-read this book and always find it amazing. Reading this book removed my fear of dying.
It was a comforting book, but not entirely believable. I happen to strongly believe in reincarnation, and she says it's not true. Also found information online stating that she is just substantiating Mormon beliefs in the book. Still researching her story to find out how authentic she is. Toward the end it felt very 'hokey' (spell?) but I got what I needed from the book.

This book was really stupid. I was excited to read it because I am very interested in near death experiences but I believe this woman was just dreaming. She did not die. Men in robes and buildings?? Come on!!!! I do not believe her story. I got a good laugh.

Very inspirational. Gives hope to those who may have lost loved ones. Great read for a book club. Inspires lots of conversation.
What an amazing tale from her Near Death Experience, she actually get's to remember some of her journey to heaven then back to earth. To me, it brings peace for loved ones and myself when the time comes for us to return to heaven.

I hated this book. It felt like lies. It was horrible to read.
Taken from inside the front cover:
Living proof that there is life after death.
Near-death experiences are not caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain, or drugs, or psychologial stresses evoked by the fear of dying. Almost twenty years of scientific research has documented that these experiences are a natural and normal process. We have even documented an area in the brain which allows us to have the experience. That means that near-death experiences are absolutely real and not hallucinations of the mind. They are as real as any other human capability; the are as real as math, as real as language.
Embraced By The Light is really a textbook of the near-death experience, written as a simple and wonderful story that we can all understand. There is a great secret contained int his book. It is a secret that you already know. It is something that the great prophets and spiritual leaders have tried to tell us for thousands of years. Betty Eadie learned it by nearly dying. It has the power to change your life.
