What a weird story. Why should that surprise me, after all it IS Stephen King!!!

A very short book to read in an afternoon without having to put it down for errands. I enjoyed every minute of it. The ending was anticipated but also so sad! It didn't "elevate" me, it made me cry.

Short novella, easily read in an hour or so, and pretty much devoid of anything memorable. There is some nice imagery, and of course the dialogue is good. I always feel that King has the best ability to capture the rhythms of how real people talk, despite how he keeps dropping his characters into bizarre situations. But the rest of this story is just a "can't we all get along" sort of fairy tale. Nothing wrong with promoting that of course, but you kind of expect something a little creepier from King. The weight loss thing has no logic except for magic, and neither does the town's about-face towards the lesbian couple. But there's a happy ending, mostly, so it's all good.

With so many good Stephen King King to read, Elevation should not have made my reading list.

This was an unusual Stephen King book and I don't want to give anything away, buts it the first time I ever cried at the ending of one of his books. It is short and easy to read but packs a lot in the pages and what you can imagine behind the scene which is what reading is all about.

My usual reaction to many of Kings books is to sleep with the light on, lol.
