Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Easy read with much food for thought about man's humanity and our relationship to the other species we share our world with.

A captivatingly original novel whic depicts eighteenth-century village and estate life beautifully. Endearing, like the elephant at its center, this book is gentle, profound and sweet-natured.

What was written 298 pages could have been written in 200. It takes place in the late 1700's in England. It's about a man who buys 2 very sickly elephants thinking he is going to breed then and have a whole herd of elephants. A young boy, Tom, who takes care of his horses is hired to take care of the elephants. One of the elephants is sold so now Tom has just Jenny to care for. The book continues with the adventures Tom and Jenny have during the next several years. Not one of the most interesting books I have ever read.

A very good and unique read. It can be thought of the Black Stallion book for elephants. Not as good as the Black Stallion and told much differently. A worthwhile read.

I really enjoyed the story of Jenny and Timothy. I loved the relationship described by the author of the keeper and Jenny, it makes you wish you kept your own elephant. Unfortunately the last half of the book seemed dark and forced, the ending was confusing and I found myself disappointed.

Loved this book. Beautifully written. If you love animals you'll enjoy learning a lot about elephants. A novel but very on point with facts. Compassionate & real feeling. Read all of the reviews, right on point. Sorry it ended, & now looking to see what else Nicholson has written. Captivating! Highly recommend this great novel. Very different!

Not until the last word was read did I realize the utter gorgeousness of the tale. It went straight to my heart.

Well written but dragged in some sections in the same way that real autobiographies do. Satisfactory ending.
