If this is where the books are heading, I will stick with the show alone. The first two books were a fun, good read. This one got all science fiction-ish. I did not care for the changes in writing style. The story was lame, and I was glad when it ended. I am going to read the fourth book, out of respect to the series, but if it is no better than this, I am done with them. Luckily, the show went off on its own path.

This book takes a little different turn from the previous two. A little Sci-Fi thrown into the story kinda took me offguard. Even though I was a bit disappointed with this addition of a bit of sci-fi-ness, the end did please me. And of course I love Dexter, so I look forward to the next installment!

This has some of the charm of the earlier Dexter novels, but I found the exploration into the nature and origin of Dexter's "Dark Passenger" rather boring. I found myself skimming these sections.

I enjoyed this book more than the 2nd book. In this 3rd installment, the Dark Passenger leaves Dexter, and he is essentially left "In the Dark" Dexter and Deborah are chasing a killer who is burning his victims and relacing their heads with ceramic bull heads. Dexter does his remarkable research and uncovers the truth about the Dark Passenger, how it came to him, and how to get it back. Dexter and Rita are planning their wedding, and Cody and Astor are soon learning that they have Dark Passengers of their own.

I am really enjoying these books so much I bought the 4th one right away. If anyone is a fan of the show, you should read these books. The first book is mirrored in Season 1 Of "Dexter" However the rest of the books are different from the tv show. So its basically like your getting a double dose of Dexter stories. These books are keepers IMO.

I devoured this book in two days! I found myself thinking about the tension during work and couldn't wait to get back to it. Felt that the ending of this story was a bit of a let-down, but I forgive that considering how thoroughly I enjoyed the build-up. My favorite so far in the Dexter series.

Jeff Lindsay is a fluid and engaging storyteller, and Dexter has been a fun character throughout the first two books. In this book, though, Dexter is fumbling around, clueless, with no idea how to solve his problems the whole way through the book. It gets kinda boring, and sister Debs' constant ranting at him adds to that vibe.

Then, literally 10 pages from the end, a few flailing incidents result in the death of one of the bad guys, who were seemingly invincible and omnipotent moments before, and the rest of the bad guys just go away. Problem solved!

I was left with all sorts of questions, and I was expecting to hear more about the remaining bad guys in Book 4, but didn't. Lindsay's formula is getting kind of weak. This is very sad, because I like the premise of the books.

What's to review? If you like the Dexter storyline, then this one will not disappoint. If your exposure to Dexter is only the TV show, then you also will not be disappointed. If anything, you get a clearer idea of the Dexter character in the books. I've read the first three, and they're quick, entertaining reads. James Patterson could learn a few things from Jeff Lindsay.

Dexter in the Dark was the third in what seems to be a progressivly-getting-better series. I like Dexter's interplay with the children much more so than in the TV series, and his sister is more believeable in the books, too. I am drooling waiting for book 4.

This book was quite different than the others - being focused more on Dexter's interior - the role of the Dark Passenger... I wonder if the show will incorporate this plot line at all... It was fascinating, with a historical context that none of the other books had. And not to mention the continued development of Cody and Astor! I am sure the show won't bring on their new roles, but I just love their addition to the plot! I wish I lived in England because the 4th book is already in print there and I would just love to keep reading this series! What fun!

This was my favorite of the three in the series. In the Dark begins to explain the origins of the Dark Passenger and delves into the big question the reader has been asking themselves since page one of the first book -- is Dexter a good guy or a bad guy? If you kill bad guys, does that make you good? While investigating a series of homicides, Dexter learns more about himself and the long standing relationship he has with the Dark Passenger, that part of his personlity that he sees as himself but also as a seperate entity. There was a bit of biblical history brought into the investigation, as well, which was a new twist that we didn't see in the previous two books. The character of Dexter developed quite a bit more in this novel. I found the last chapter to be espcially hilarious in a Dexter sort of way! See if you interpret it the same way I did...

A continuation of the macabre and riveting series of books about Dexter which is every bit as good as the first two books.

Did not care for this one. So glad the show went in a more realistic direction, also didn't like the lack of closure in the end. Lame.

This is the third book in the series and I really enjoyed it..it took a little turn into the paranormal, but overall, it was an exciting and good read. Can't wait to read #4!

This is the third Dexter book in the series. Not my favorite one. I felt it focused too much on the Dark Passenger and not enough of the actual storyline. I found myself skimming through the rants about the Dark Passenger. Loved the first two books but not so much this one. Hope the other ones are better than this one.

New angle from the previous Dexter books. I preferred the more realistic ones, but this one focuses on the Dark Passenger and his origins as well. This novel is more spiritual and definitely not as realistic.

This book was a little slow getting started but still an excellent read!

I didn't like this one as much as the two previous books, but it was still good. Lindsay's style is fun and easy to read, and I've enjoyed getting to know Dexter. I'm looking forward to the next one.

While the first two books were fantastic, Dexter in the Dark leaves fans wondering what the heck happened. Lindsay explains the origins of Dexter's "dark passenger" in such a way it touches on fantasy, ripping down the psychological fun of the series. Here's to hoping the tv series doesn't even touch the material in this book. I for one wonder if I even want to touch the next book, if there ever will be one.
