I enjoyed the suspense of this one - it could have ended in one of several different ways and I wasn't able to guess which way it would go. The personal relationships between characters was quite realistic and down to earth.

I've always liked Kathy Reichs because her writing and detail are entertaining as well as accurate. She is also far less preachy than Patricia Cornwell. Tempe Brennan is just as smart as Cornwell's heroine (whose name I've forgotten) but she is far more real, and much less of a martyr. This is a good, solid book in the series.

Nine-year-old Emily Anne Toussaint is shot dead on a Montreal street. A North Carolina teenager disappears from her home and parts of what may be her skeleton are found hundreds of miles away. For Dr. Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist in both Montreal and North Carolina, the deaths kindle deep emotions that propel her on a harrowing journey into the world of outlaw motorcycle gangs.

From blood-splatter patterns and ground-penetrating radar to bone-sample analysis, Deadly Decisions triumphantly combines the authenticity of a world-class forensic professional with the narrative power of a brilliant new crime-writing star. This richly nuanced thriller is sure to catapult a uniquely gifted author to even greater heights.

Another page-turner from the creator of the "Bones" televison series. Follow Tempe Brennan as she uses her forensic skills to solve another crime.

Kathy Reichs' writing is engaging and makes for wonderful light reading, which makes this a good read even during the slower parts of the novel.
If you're a fan of the television series, be aware that the books are not at all similar. In my opinion, that's a wonderful thing. While Temperance Brennan's television self makes for humorous watching, it would be terrible to read about someone that disconnected from human interaction. Reichs' Temperance Brennan is transparent about what she feels and passionate about all aspects of her work and life.

Another good novel about the intriguing world of forensic pathology. The heroine, Tempe Brennan, is a good character and I like her more than Kay Scarpetta (Cornwell's character)!

As usual, Reichs tale is detailed to the max. While I enjoyed the storyline, I was not impressed with the amount of detail she supplied about each and every act and character. She seems to go overboard with her analysis and makes me skip paragraphs or pages due to boredom! I usually am enthralled with her work, but am finding this excessive attention to detail to be the downfall.

This one was just okay for me. I'm not really sure about this series. I enjoy the TV show, Bones, but the books are nothing like the show. I find the books hard to read and follow with all of the medical/scientific descriptions whereas the show is better at "dumbing" things down for lay people. Just not my favorite.

These books are nothing like the TV series, although I now enjoy both. I like that there is a French connection - I get to read the French and know what it says before the translation - although there is not too much French. The mystery is great - sure there is murder and mayhem - but it is more about putting the pieces together than gore. You also get to learn about a lot science and procedure - very interesting stuff, especially when it is not in a textbook!
This particular one was not one of my favorite. It jumped around a lot and it is starting to get a little clichéd that Tempe always has a relative who gets caught up in what ever she happens to be investigating.

Dr. Brennan is back at it again, this time digging up skeletons and secrets of Montreal's rough 'n rowdy outlaw motorcycle clubs. Complicating matters is Andrew Ryan's apparent sudden turn to the dark side and a visit from Brennan's bike-loving nephew.
Another solid mystery. However, at this point, Brennan has run out of family members to get in the middle of her investigation, so hopefully the next book will adopt a different formula.

Dr. Temperance Brennan finds herself and her nephew in the midst of a motorcycle gang war that is piling up bodies in Montreal -- and that doesn't count the long-deceased victims that are turning up. The two bad apples in this tale are obvious fairly early on, and it takes longer than it should for her to figure out what's going on.
A terrific mystery!
Great read!
Another very good Bones book!
The heroine was detailed, logical, calculating, and ..... boring.
I don't watch "Bones" nor have I read any other Temperance Brennan books so I make no comparisons. This book was the first I had read by Kathy Reichs so I'm starting out with a clean slate.
The forensic details are amazing. They are technical and precise - intuitive and direct. I think they ran a bit long and could have been summarized a bit better and still maintained their "point." The lecture hall discussion about motorcycle gangs was interesting but it was like reading Wikipedia.
I suppose if it wasn't dead and/or in need of analysis, then Termperance really didn't know what to do with it. She's lost on personal relationships, as evidenced by the fact that she'd rather wait for a man than move on. A man she knows she may never hear from.

What the author does with this series: Kathy Reichs started off slow but gets better and better. This is part of the series called the Tempe Brenner â Forensic Anthropologist. This paragraph applies to all books in this series. Tempe is a anthropologist who works for medical examiners in Montreal, Quebec and Charlotte North Caroline
Even though the books are often very detailed in both location and the examination of the remains, the story often moves faster than you expect.
Do you need to read this series in order: YES or you miss out on too much of the back stories.
Triggers: This is a book about medical examiners at its core, so lots of references to dead bodies, some are described in strong detail (in a forensic way). Our anthropologist ends up in some life threatening situations and on a couple of occasions in the series, animals are killed, sometimes gratuitously. Relatives of Tempe often in up wounded as the bad persons try to get to her through her family.
Dr. Temperance Brennan, star of Kathy Reichs' electrifyingly authentic bestsellers. When innocent blood is spilled, she deciphers the shattering truth it holds. A very enjoyable read. Dr. Brennan is in Montreal investigating the connection between the death of a nine-year-old shot on the street and a North Carolina teenager as part of her skeleton is found near an outlaw bikers club house.

Another in her excellent series! It is fun to watch Reichs' progression as a writer by reading this series in order. It is also interesting to compare the characters to the "Bones" TV series, which I watch religiously.
Dark as are all of Kathy Reichs' books. If you're looking for the Bones that appears on TV - this isn't it. What it is, is a masterful forensic thriller written as only an ex-forensic anthropologist could do it.
