Nohting much happens in Donnerville. At least not to the young librarian, Jane Kerry. Then one day Jane finds an envelope containing a fifty-dollar bill and a note instructing her to "Look homeward, angel." Jane pulls a copy of the Thomas Wolfe novel of that title off the shelf and finds a second envelope. This one contains a hundred-dollar bill and another clue. Like the first, it's signed "MOG (Master of Games)." The game has begun...
But this is no ordinary game. As it goes on, it requires more and more of Jane's strenght and ingenuity. It pushes her into actions that she knows are creazy, immoral or criminal - and it becomes continually more dangerous. More than once, Jane has to fight for her life. But she soon learns she can't quit this game. MOG won't let her. She'll have to play to the bitter end.

WOW! This book is the perfect balance of fear, suspense, mystery, and romance. Laymon grabs you from page one and doesn't let go until the very end. He threw everything into the mix: graveyards at midnight, dangerous strangers, creepy abandoned houses (with spiders!), dark, lonely roads, and a villain as demented, illusive, and evil as they come. The plot is original; I've never read any other book quite like it. If you like psychological thrillers and you're not afraid of the dark, you're in for a real treat!

A chilling, suspenseful, page-turner of a book that asks the question, what would you do for money?

This is a page-turner!! A woman gets a strange letter with money enclosed asking her to perform a simple task....the tasks get more bizarre and dangerous as the amounts of money get larger - it ends with a deadly encounter.

Although I liked this book, in my opinion it was NOT one of his better books. (And I have ready ALOT of Laymon's books) I thought the story was dragging in parts and some parts could of been left out all together.

This was my first Lymon book. If the rest are as good as this I'll be hooked!
This was a real page turner. I like the fact that the heroine was/is a librarian. Who'd have guessed she'd be such a superwoman?!

What can I say but 'WOW'....talk about a psychologically thrilling read! I was captivated from page one and couldn't wait to see what new "game" was in store next. Although the ending wasn't what I expected (a bit too mushy for my taste), all in all, this gets a big thumbs up!

This book took off pretty quickly and was a blast to read. It did slow down and seem to lose a little bit of focus at a point, but everything came together rather nicely. Definitely a thrilling read.

Couldn't even finish it. Character development was horrible. By the action of the female main character alone you could tell this was written by a man (with some sad sexual repression and adolescent fantasies).

Once I sat down and started reading this book, I couldn't put it down at all! ...The ending was a bit too much lovey dovey but will read more!

The plot was good interesting and different all those things in the beginning, but somewhat unrealistic. I was a full time librarian and even though I didn't have to be at work until 9am. I would not go out at midnight getting into trouble and doing all this dumb questionable stuff. Especially being ok with letting a stranger come into my house at night and write on my body? Give me a break it made the character seem pathetic and desperate. I've been reading Laymon for years and this is my last time.
