Shreve's life is complex. She is in love with a man who kills coyotes for a living, yet a coyote pup finds his way into her life and she can either kill him or raise him. She chooses to raise him & embarks on a love story with a wild canine that is heartbreakingly beautiful. Both Shreve & Charlie (the coyote) must learn to give up a little of themselves to bridge the gap between wild & domestic in order to co-exist in harmony. Their relationship becomes a symbiotic one. He depends on her for survival, she in turn depends on him for survival, creating a home business based on her amazing photography of their life together. Peppered throughout the book are several of these phenomenal images of Charlie. The best part about this story is that it has a happy ending. For you animal lovers out there, this seldom happens with a tale involving nature. You can even visit her blog to see how Charlie is doing now.

This book should be on the reading list of junior high school students everywhere! A great American adventure story, I consumed it in 1 day. A young woman feels the call of a completely different lifestyle then how she's lived and takes the plunge into rural living and raising a wild puppy. I believe this will eventually become one of those classic American works.

Crazy lady raises a coyote pup expecting that she can keep the wolf away if only she pours enough time, energy and love into the relationship. And she justifies it by posting it online, to the cheers and adulation of social media. I read wondering not whether the coyote would survive, but whether she would. Finished it feeling disappointed.

Loved this book! A beautiful, heartwarming (true) story of a woman who raises an orphaned coyote pup.

After reading it, I can't help but feel that a beautiful, blonde, under 30 lady seems to get a lot more help from others in these situations than the rest of us creeps.
