It was a really intriguing read but towards the end I have to say it pithered out a bit. The mystery part was a bit of a disappointment. Both Aubrey and Susannah were great characters though as well as most of the side characters.

Worth the read but not spectacular.

When her cousin passes away, Susannah travels West to Seattle to care for her dear friend's infant daughter. Upon meeting her cousin's estranged husband; however, the sparks between to fly between the two of them. Susannah soon becomes torn between this newfound passion and loyalty to her deceased friend. And, when marriage is suggested as a viable alternative, the reader wonders if Susannah will marry? And, if she does, will it last? A nice period book from Linda Lael Miller.

Linda Lael Miller, more widely know for her vampire books, writes an excellent historical romance about the Old West. All of them are good and this is no exception.

This book is ok but not at all like the rest of the books I have read thus far. I did enjoy it & there are some parts that made me laugh outright.

Publisher's Note
Susannah McKittrick leaves Nantucket for Seattle to care for a newborn child, left motherless after her cousin's death, and encounters her late cousin's husband, wealthy businessman Aubrey Fairgrieve, a man left embittered by a bad marriage and seemingly indifferent to his own child.

When Susannah McKittrick leaves Nantucket for the boomtown of Seattle, she is hardly looking to strike it rich; she is headed west to care for a newborn left motherless after Susannah's cousin died. Although the rigorous trip depletes all of her savings, Susannah is certain she is doing the right thing. She is less sure when she meets the infant's father, wealthy businessman Aubrey Fairgrieve--who seems embittered toward love and marriage, and indifferent toward the precious baby Susannah is so eager to care for.
Gradually, Susannah discovers that Aubrey's marriage to her cousin was far from perfect--and she comes to see the brusque but handsome man in a new light. But when Aubrey makes her a most practical offer, it is a far cry from the heartfelt proposal Susannah desires. If he truly wants to win her hand, he will have to learn to trust once more--and sweep her away with the bold passion of a man in love.
