Even if you think you've come from a mildly dysfunctional family, you will recognize others (or perhaps yourself) in this book.

I was married to a controlling abusive person for 8 years before I filed divorce - I read this book soon after & it's helped me cope with and control the reins on my life, and keep my children's life sane and stable despite his attempts to be a control freak.

Odd conversations that sparked him to attack me, that had never made sense, are explained in this book. Amazing. I didn't feel alone anymore.

I recommend anyone in a friendship/work relationship or other relationship with a control person read this. Also I hope every counselor reads this. Eye opening content and easy to understand examples and options on how to hold ones own mental ground against seemingly unsparked fury or retalliation: It makes it all make sense (Finally!).

A very helpful tool for me in terms of dealing with past and present controlling people issues, as well as identifying my own tendencies with control and how that effects others. A must read for anyone under the weight of a controlling person. Not all control tactics look alike and some are disguised in ways you might not see. This book helps identify several ways that people try to control others and what the victims can do about it.
