When I first realized this was listed as a 'Young Adult' book, I almost put it down. But I gave it a try. The first chapters are a little confusing, who is writing ? What are they writing about? It all gradually becomes clearer, and heartbreaking. This book shows the strengths of friendship, and of hate. Not just another WWII book.

This is a gripping, understated thriller which takes some literary chances in the form in which the story is told - but once I was into it, I found it hard to put down. It's not for everybody, however - the story is not told in a straightforward way and some of the material will be too strong for some. But things like this did happen and it is best that we be reminded from time to time that they did.
