Cay Van Ash born 1918 born Sussex, England died in Paris 1994 was a Professor of English Literature at Waseda University in Japan and a writer.

In 1935, the 17 year old pedalled his bicycle to interview his literary hero Sax Rohmer. The two struck up a friendship with him where Van Ash lived with Rohmer for 15 months.. They corresponded until Rohmer's death in 1959.

Van Ash taught at Weseda University from 1961 until his death. In 1971, Rohmer's widow Elizabeth contacted Van Ash to work on a biography of her husband Master of Villiany.

Whilst teaching in Japan Van Ash was licensed to write some continuation Fu Manchu novels the first one being Ten Years Beyond Baker Street (1984). Set in April 1914 in Sussex, it featured Dr. Petrie contacting the retired detective Sherlock Holmes to locate a missing Sir Denis Nayland-Smith. A second novel Fires of Fu Manchu followed in 1987. A third novel The Seal of Fu Manchu may have been written and set in Paris, but Van Ash died before its completion.
