I love everything that Mary Jo Putney Writes. As she says in her Author's Note, domestic violence is wrong, wrong. wrong. It's the story and the way Kate and Donovan face themselves and their problems that make this a great story and a wonderful read! I could not put this book down! Learning about the demolition business was exciting also. There is great chemistry and passion in this story not to mention SPARKS.

Mary Jo Putney is a fantastic writer.
This was the first book I read by this author and I will read many more. I loved it.
Kate Corsi always dreamed of working for her family's world famous explosive demolition business, a wish her father denied her. After he died Kate inherited his fortune and her ex-husband inherited the business, but only if they lived together under the same roof for a year.
A book showing another side of domestic violence. A good love story.

first i have read of her - i will read more.
Pretty good...interesting info about building demolition work...characters with personality quirks and some real problems to work out.
This is the first Mary Jo Putney book and I'm really it is a contemporary instead of historical. I'm a little tired of regency books which Mary Jo has written many on. This book dealt with a very sensitive topic, domestic violence, and provides a good arc on the two leads. The suspense part was very good and I look forwrd to more of MJP's contemporary books.
Slow start.

Great look into the world of demolition of buildings. Very interesting plus a look into how wife abuse affects both parties. Good read.
Her first contemporary novel!
Publishers Weekly
Known for her historical romances (The Wild Child, etc.), Putney successfully moves into contemporary fiction. Kate Corsi and Patrick Donovan, divorced 10 years ago, are reunited by the death of Kate's father, Sam, who was killed in an explosion at work. The Corsi family company, Phoenix Demolition, takes pride in its spotless accident record, and Sam's death is suspicious. His will leaves the business to his former son-in-law, on the condition that Donovan and Kate live under the same roof for one year. If Kate refuses, the company will be sold. Forbidden by her father to work for the company, Kate now has her chance to work at Phoenix. But can she work and live in such close proximity to the ex-husband she seems to both love and fear? This passionate love story unravels gradually, in trademark Putney style. The author has created a realistic, well-crafted story, laced with elements of suspense and mystery and featuring sympathetic protagonists whose biggest mistake was marrying too young. This is Putney's first contemporary novel, a riveting story of the ties that bind two people together - and the forces that can tear them apart. Kate Corsi and her ex-husband Donovan inherit the family business - but only if they stay together to for one year.

This was one of the best book I have read. I still remember the story. I have read hundreds over the last 30 years. The descriptions in the story really make you think you are there. I have always felt that this would make a great movie. I need to get this again and revisit. I never reread. This is one book that I will make an exception for. GREAT READ.
