The Michael Bennett series is a good one! I don't like the Private series at all but so far this has been the best along with Alex Cross

Well written. Michael Ledwidge and James Patterson have teamed up once again to achieve a book which keeps you turning turning the pages as quickly as you can.

Seems like the Patterson novels of late lack the explosive, "didn't see that coming" ending. And this book is no exception. The conclusions to the different cases Det Bennett and his new squad are working on are disappointing and anticlimactic. It's almost as if the writers get tired of the book and just wrap it up for the sake of finishing the book. That said, the book overall is pretty good reading and the new assignment for Det Bennett could prove interesting IF Patterson keeps him in his current assignment.

This was my first Michael Bennett book and while it would have been helpful to have read the first books in the series so I had some background, it wasn't completely a wash as the authors do give very brief descriptions of who is who. That being said, this book was pretty darn good. As the back-of-the-book synopsis says, Michael Bennett comes back to New York after being in witness protection while a trial was going on. It takes no time at all for him to get back into the swing of things and before long he is thrown into two different cases, showing his excellent juggling skills. As predictable, he is able to pull it off and solves both cases, with the help of his new âOutreach Squadâ cop buddies. However, the book tends to leave the reader unfulfilled, as there are still parts of the story left hanging. I guess that is so we'll want to read the next book in the series.

I enjoyed Michael Bennett as a cop, with his fearless dedication to take down the criminals, but personally, I could care less about his adoptive 10 kids and his on-again-off-again relationship with the kids' ânanny.â I'm reading a crime/police procedural novel for the action, thrill of the hunt, the good-verses-evil fear and fight, and the satisfaction of justice being served (hopefully street style and out of court!). I DON'T read this kind of novel for the romance and feel-good emotions of his family life. I wish authors would get that through their heads. Still, the type of crime Detective Bennett has to solve is pretty horrifying, so I will give the authors a pass this time.
