So, my thoughts on these books are always jumbled. I read through them at lightning speed, but I think it's because I've grown to love all of the characters so much. The story once again didn't really go anywhere. Richard came back in the picture, with a completely unrealistic turn-around from the person he was in the 18 previous books. Anita is less whiny about all the metaphysical things that she has to do, but it was still too much. The author also keep going on and on about small details and then when an important scene would happen it was rushed. We learned alot about how everything was redecorated, and what clothes they wore, and when the bad guys would come, the confrontation would be rushed and missing some important details.

Basically, while I still love the characters these books are just not the same caliber that they used to be, and I really miss that.

I've been thinking for several days as to how I should review this book. I'm not an LKH-basher, even though I've been pretty tough on several of the last published novels. But in the end, I just have to go with how I feel.

Truth: I gagged my way through the first three chapters of BULLET, skimmed through a few more, and finally gave up. Some may say that reading only a few chapters of a book makes me incapable of writing a review, but I beg to differ. Let's begin....

The first chapter starts with Anita doing a favor for someone we've never heard of before. Said someone doesn't like Anita, Anita doesn't like her, and the only thing bringing them together is the need for a little boy's costume hat. Could have worked, except said five-year-old little boy wants to kiss Anita on the lips, like "all of the big boys do." The point? Even a little kid knows Anita is a whore. I apologize for the rough language, but please, let's call a spade a spade. It's gotten to the point where even CHILDREN in this series recognize that Anita Blake is nothing but a sex machine.

When the entire "ardeur" thing began, I went with it. I even understood the concept and reasoning behind it. But face it people - we've moved beyond Anita needing sex for power. She's now nothing more than a walking vagina. Anita Blake has sex because there's absolutely nothing else for her to do with ANY of the characters in this series! I've never met a character with such sex appeal. However Anita's doing it - making every single male and female (living or undead), want to have sex with her - she needs to bottle that up and sell it for a profit. She could not only have a "puppy pile," she could BUY a damn kennel!

And the sex? Puhleeease. Richard getting it on with Asher? Hello? Is this the same Richard who two books ago couldn't even stand to see Anita look at another guy, never mind know that she would no doubt end up having sex with them? I'm all for the male-male sex scene when the story calls for it, but there is no way in h-e-double-hockey-sticks that the REAL Richard would ever bring his naked body anywhere NEAR that of the scarred but deeply emotional Asher.

I could go on, but is there really a point? You're probably asking yourself why, if I'm so disgusted with the series, I continue to read it. And you would have a wonderful point, one that I've finally taken to heart. I WON'T be reading this series any longer. I've spent too much time waiting for it to get better - to be as good as the first four or five books - and realize now that my wait is pointless. It's not going to get better, ladies and gents. The downhill slide started a long time ago, and there is no hope for redemption as long as LKH continues to live out her Mary Sue fantasies through Anita Blake.

So, au revoir, Anita. It's been one heck of a ride, but this reader has finally come to her senses. After all, there are too many other decent books out there just waiting for me to read them. And just about anything else has got to be better than this.

I think I'm giving up on reading any more Anita Blake books.

As someone else said, there's too much sex and the books aren't good like they once were. There used to be an interesting storyline with Anita actually doing something. Lately all she does is have sex and then more sex with almost anyone that she comes in contact with, or so it seems.

Enough is enough already. I'm glad I checked this out of the library instead of buying it or wasting a credit on it. Maybe in the next book things will improve and there will be a better storyline (in my opinion), but I'm not holding my breath. Don't waste your time on this book.

At first I was worried - long descriptions of a boring dance recital, then Richard appears on the scene (I just can't stand Richard!).

But then the story gets some action going and it turned out to be one of her better books.

I almost gave up after the first couple chapters, but I'm glad I worked through to the good stuff.

I rarely review books, but this one was just awful. One of the worst that I have read. Other books in the series vary greatly from fair to great, but this was just horrible. It reads like a frustrated woman's sex fantasy and nothing of any note happens. I was bored from start to finish.

Hamilton put more thought into this Anita Blake story, which I did enjoy... but can't Asher DO something with his time?? Paint or sing or something???

A lot of people complain about the amount of sex in these books. Doesn't bother me. That's the good part IMO. I think what we should complain about her last few books is the lack of STORY. Although this book has a major plot changer with Richard doing a 180 in his personality, it was so abrupt it seems unbelievable. We spend lots and lots of time in boring details and moments where action might happen if they didn't have to talk everything to death. It is literally exhausting to read.

It feels like there is little forward progress, little character development. Another complaint is that we don't see much of important and favorite characters lately. Nathaniel and Damien, where art thou? Aren't they a triumvirate, too? I don't know if she's just run out of story to tell with Anita Blake or what has happened.

When I finished this book, I really thought that it could be my last Anita Blake book. I felt like I'd wasted my time and money. I certainly won't rush out to buy another hardcover. But I'll probably read more, because I keep hoping that we'll see my favorites come out to play, or maybe something really interesting will happen to reinvigorate the series. Probably a wasted hope.

Hamilton let us down again. I have been a dedicated fan since the first book in the series. I loved how strong, and passionate Anita was to herself and her beliefs. The action/suspense in the earlier books was amazing fun. They were books you wanted to keep, and reread over and over again.

The last 5 books have been a complete let down...Bullet just sealed the fate of future reads for me. I won't spend my money anymore for books that could be used as firestarter.

Not only was Bullet short, but it was a jumbled up mess of overused words and phrases...ie: "Mounds of creamy goodness"...Im sorry, but that phrase should never be used in refrence to onces breasts....Let alone twice in a book!

There was no hardcore action that anita took part in...Just a glimpse of one of the decaying vamps that was causing havoc in another state that Anita gave advice on.

The ending was summed up in 4 pages!!!! Hamilton actually closed the whole book in 4 pages!!!

I'm not a writer, nor an editor....I can't put words together and make them fancy...But I am a reader! I know what makes a great book ( to me at least) and I can figure out when an author just doesn't care because their ego is over inflated, and they think their name alone is worth the price of the book.

Hamilton needs to get an editor fast (thats right she doesn't have one! It was one of her requirements in her contract that she wanted...Can we say ego-maniac)

I will not be buying or requesting anymore of her books....Anita is dead to me!

I see this book as being the natural progression of the series. To take a line from the book, Anita (and Richard) are just 'out-monstering the monsters'...because Anita won't back down from a fight...especially when it comes to protecting the weak and innocent.

This was okay but each Anita Blake book is getting shorter and shorter on plot. It's pretty much endless sex which after a few novels loses it's appeal. The number of her sex partners has just gotten ridiculously large and there are just too many to keep track of from one book to another. I found her books exciting and erotic in the beginning. Nothing really happened in this book to justify it's novel length. I was disappointed although I can't say that I plan to stop reading her books. I just hope they don't continue with this plotless trend.

WOW was this a pure sex story! Obviously there is a storyline too but as a true Anita Blake fan knows, there cannot be a story without serious group sex. In this one, the vampire council is out to kill Jean-Claude and Anita because the council believes they have acquired too much power and will try to take over the council. Therefore, the Harlequin want Anita to become a gold tiger master which will allow her and Jean-Claude to be a beastmaster, a master of all animals. Everyone knows that Anita acquires wereanimals like dogs fleas so it really isn't going to be a major issue. This is where the sex comes in, every time she masters one breed, there is an orgy. And in this book, she needs to master all the colors of tigers. Sex, sex, sex...can I say WOW again. Oh and Richard has returned to Anita and Jean-Claude and he comes back a changed man. Oh let the fun begin.

So sad, so sad. I loved Anita Blake books because I fell in love with the characters and the really interesting story plots... but this book kind of ruins that for me. Jean Claude with Asher I can live with - Jean Claude with another woman - I felt betrayed and heartbroken. And Anita having sex with a tiger on the floor in the middle of a party also lost it for me. There was no love there... I couldn't even read that part. It just seemed so out of place and unnecessary.

Excellent action as always! I enjoy all of her books for the edge of your seat anticipation of, what next? Anita's men are all here, even Richard. There are surprises in store. Wish she could share even one with me!!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, oh Mother of All Darkness is back. Once again we have a triad that doesn't work because Anita is a self centered slut who has issues with being a slut. Richard is a dick in all manner of ways.

Why do I continue to read this series? I could ask the same of people watching the "Housewives of [insert county]" and Jersey Shores. Why do you watch realty TV Shows? Every once in a while, I like to read books of the same caliber. This series is a hoot.

A dscription of the plot has already been made. I enjoyed the book and was confused by it. I love the Anita Blake series, but I have to say the quick turn around for Richard did not seem plausible. I kept waiting for it to be disclosed he was possessed by Mommie Dearest or something. I don't mind the sex, that's part of the Blake series, and I liked the violence and further flushing out of Asher's character. But I was left confused by the transformation of Richard...I don't think wrapping it up by saying he's had therapy and simply accepts himself does it. Overall,it's an okay story, not one of her best. I would like to see a little less sex and more of the ruthlessness of Blake and Jean Claude.

You know...as an avid Laurell K. Hamilton and Anita Blake fan, I have to say it is great to finally be on the right track again. The past couple of books in this series have been so so and I almost gave up. But it seems that there is a plot again and Anita is not all about the whole sex thing again. Yes..I have read the other reviews, but compared to past books, this one doesn't just begin and end with nothing but sex. I actualy enjoyed it and can't wait for more.

Follows well in the sequence of the story line. You really do need to read the books in order but if you find you fall out of the line you can always pick up the thread with in the current book.
