I picked up this book, thinking it would be a good trashy erotica story - just what I was in the mood for. Well, I got more than I bargained for. Yes, there were the requisite sex scenes, but there was a whole lot more. The story is actually quite deep and thought provoking. It engages your emotions and makes you feel - happy, angry, bittersweet, sated - throughout. Sometimes the author seemed to stumble a bit finding the right words to express a feeling, but that only made the book more endearing. I found myself wondering what I would do if my husband became disabled...how my house and my life would change. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys both erotica and an engaging story.

This is the second Megan Hart book that I have read (Tempted was the first). I really liked Tempted as it was so much more than just an erotic novel. It was truly a journey of what could happen to a happy marriage if a third party became intimate with the main couple. A thought compelling question. I was curious to read another book by this author to see if this was typical of her other novels.

After reading GeniusJen's review, there is not much else to say. She explains the premise of the book very well. If there was one sentance that tried to explain the book, it would be this one: "I'd never know the woman I'd have been if I hadn't met Adam. Until I met Joe, I hadn't wondered. Who was I now?"

Megan Hart has a true gift to make you feel and understand what the characters are going through, and why they do the things that they do. Like another reviewer said, you feel the despair, the disappointment, the hope, betrayal, guilt, love and hatred. Joe's sex stories feeds the need that Sadie has, after a void is left following her husbands accident.

It is a definite tear jerker, but am SO glad that I read this book. Thought provoking and erotic (but not over the top). Can't say enough about Megan Hart as an author. She is unlike most authors in her genre. My next read for Megan Hart will be her new release "Stranger".

After reading so many positive reviews about BROKEN, I decided that I couldn't wait any longer, and promptly bought a copy. I'm so very glad I did.

This book is definitely erotica. It's also one of the most amazingly emotional reads I've ever read, and is definitely on my short-list of favorites for books I've read so far in 2009.

Sadie is a woman that could be any of us. She loves her husband - totally, completely - and that is never in doubt. But her husband, now a quadraplegic from a skiing accident, is not the man she married.

When she meets Joe, and starts seeing him on the first Friday of every month for lunch, her life changes even more. Because Joe is a storyteller, and the stories he tells her each month are erotic escapades about the women he's met.

It's not cheating, it really isn't, but Sadie can't help but put herself into each of the fantasies that Joe tells. She loves her husband, don't ever doubt that, but she also longs to be loved in return - heart, body, and soul.

BROKEN is a story about life, about love, about marriage, about sex. It's all of that, and so much more. Buy it, read it, and love it as much as I did.

So this was the first erotic novel that I have ever read and I had my doubts about what kind of story I would find behind the trashy love scenes. What I found was incredibly shocking, this story had depth, great character development and actually had me wondering how my life would change if my husband were to become disabled as the main character's does. This book was an incredibly fast read, took me one day. If you are apprehensive about reading a book like this and think you can wade through the sex scenes, then I think you will enjoy this book.

What if there was a husband with a brilliant mind in a body that couldn't move? What if he had a wife that he could no longer physically comfort and make love to? What if that woman was me?! How would I handle my life? What would I do? I truly hope I never have to find out.

This is the story of Sadie and how she handles her life under those circumstances. How she clings to the love she has for her husband as she cares for his needs and how she copes with the loss of a normal life and relationship. Very emotional story!

Oh, and I guess I should mention Joe since he is the "other man" in this story...sort of...and he's HOT, HOT, HOT! And because the erotic sexual encounters in this erotic romance are his.

Broken by Megan Hart is a contemporary erotica story. Sadie is a dedicated psychologist married to her first love Alex who was paralyzed in a skiing accident. Joe is a man, whom Sadie meets on the first Friday of each month for lunch and a story of one of Joes conquests.

This story is a heart-wrenching tale of a woman committed to her husband, but yearning for emotional and physical intimacy. She lives vicariously through the stories Joe tells during their lunches. The author does a fabulous job developing her characters and as a reader you are submersed in the thoughts and emotions of her characters. You laugh with Sadie as she laughs at Joe, you cry with Sadie as her desperation for a physical connection becomes palpable.

The individual tales Joe tells are scorching and add the erotic element to the novel, but are far from being the focal point of the story. I felt this was a very realistic portrayal of a woman in an untenable situation doing all she can to be true to her love, but crying out for any form of intimacy. Broken is a must read.

Fantastic story. The eroticism wasn't over the top. The romance was sweet. But the thing I liked most was that I could relate to the humanity laced in her characters. Emotions aren't always clearly written, especially in real life and I believe this book captured them in the convuluted way they appear. I was touched, moved and forever changed by this story. Ms. Hart truly has a gift.

My Thoughts: Wow, what can I say? I read a few erotica books every now and than, and don't write too many reviews on them. But this one, I just had too! We meet Sadie, who meets up with Joe every month. She met him one day on a bench and has met him there every month since for his stories. She has a husband at home who she loves but who is handicapped. We meet Joe who is a womanizer, who sleeps around with A LOT of women. You can tell from the get go that Sadie has feelings about Joe. I mean, she thinks about him A LOT. Joe tells her all his sex stories every month and Sadie goes home wishing it was her in that story. You can tell she is somewhat sexually frustrated but she never cheats on her husband with Joe physically. Of course a little part of me wanted to see Sadie end up with Joe. You can tell Joe has real feelings for her. Every month its the same thing, Joe telling Sadie stories. If you want to know what happens with Sadie, her husband, or Joe read the book to find out.

Overall: I really liked this one. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It does have really graphic scenes in it but its not all about sex, some of it is romance. I liked Joe but I didn't really like his women ways. I liked Sadie a lot.You could tell how strong of a women she really is. Megan Hart knows how to write and I plan on reading more of her books!

Cover: The cover is cute. Not too graphic but just enough to make it interesting.

This book kind of took my by surprise. I had tears in my eyes more than once. It really makes you think about how things can change in ones life so fast and then what your left with in the end. Loved the book!

A wonderful book, offered in a little different format. Emotionally compelling, heart wrenching and of course, sexually stimiulating. Megan Hart is a treasure and this book is a great read! Five stars.

Ok, I admit I like an erotica novel occassionally. However, the mark of a great book to me is one that puts me in another place and evokes emotional responses. Megan Hart achieved those goals. I highly recommend this book. It's not your run of the mill novel that you may enjoy but can't remember the plot a few monthes later.

What an amazingly emotional story! I haven't cried like this for a while. I could follow her emotionally throughout the whole story, although the end was not my favorite.

I absolutely loved this book. The erotica part was fun, but the story was amazing. Very beautifully written. I really need a story it can't just be fluff. This book had a great story. I would really recommend reading this book.

Absolutely loved it! She makes me cry and laugh and well yes the sex is amazing you dont do her justice by labeling the book 'erotica'. It goes way beyond that. Hart is a terrific storyteller and weaves her story in and around us so that you really cant put it down.

**WARNING SPOILER*I absolutely LOVED Broken. I cried my eyes out when Adam died. I knew the only way Sadie was going to end up with Joe is if Adam died but I still cried when he die. I really wanted Sadie to end up with Adam but then again I wanted her to end up with Joe too. I have to say thought that I was really disappointed with the ending because I want some kind of love declaration from Joe since all throughout the book he is with different woman and we never got know how he felt about Sadie. Although when Joe said that all those stories he told, he imagined it was Sadie was so sweet, I just wished he would have told Sadie something that was more deeper than that. I hope Megan Hart writes a squeal or short about them because I really want more Joe and Sadie! This book is going straight to my keeper shelf since I know I will be re-reading it many times over.

A beautiful cover and a beautiful, sexy book about a woman who stays true to her husband in the face of adversity, but ultimately has the hope of a joyful, sexy relationship.

Sadie uses Joe's sex filled stories, during their casual lunches, to fulfill her sexual ache. See her and Joe aren't dating, they aren't even friends. She is married and he is just a living, breathing dream come true.

With a less than luxe life: disabled husband, no kids, and ordinary life. She can't quite feel guilty taking pleasure in the stories Joe tells. Becoming the woman Joe describes in exquisite detail gives her sexual relief, if only mentally.

Megan Hart's "realistic" erotic novels are like a hearty beef stew. Hot, thick, and meaty. Certainly takes more than a lick to enjoy. Your left feeling fully and satisfied. How many more innuendos, indeed.

I enjoyed this story but is wasn't my favorite Hart novel. I have enjoyed this author author to recommend her books to friends and continue reading her books.

I was excited to get this after reading all the reviews. I have mixed feeling about it. Sadie is a very well put character however Joe just does not come off right to me. It's a sad tale with love, sex, and dissapointments. It was good to a point but also depressing at the same time.

I've never read erotica before, but I think it's safe to say that this is one of the really good ones out there. The sex scenes are hot without being overboard or uncomfortable. Megan Hart also does a fantastic job developing the characters: Sadie may be a little generic (though still relatable) due to her narrator status, but Adam is a well realized portrait of a brilliant man trapped inside a useless body, and Joe, while originally enigmatic, is also consistent enough from escapade to escapade that he becomes appreciatively real.

If you're reading this for the sex scenes, the in-between plot can feel a bit slow, but that's also what makes this book so much more than simply literary porn: we become actually invested in the characters and do not think of them as simply sex objects. If you're looking for good characterization and a good plot, pick up BROKEN, with its classy-not-trashy writing and plot. You'll want to pass this around to your open-minded friends so that you can enjoy this together.

I wasn't that thrilled with the story. More depressing than erotic.

This was an extremely emotional book! I normally read erotica for the trashy story lines, but this one took me by surprise. I will admit I almost quit reading due to the fact that it was much deeper than a normal erotica type of book, but I'm glad I stuck with it because it had a much better story line than most erotica books I have read. It definitely left me wondering what I would have done in her situation. I loved it!

I guess I just didn't get it. Seemed to use a lot of sex to tell the story of an unhappy person.
