This is a typical example of the new genre called Chic Lit. It is light reading, fast moving, easy to understand, and entertaining, but not juvenile. The book is about a journalist for the NY Journal and her day to day life with her coworkers. She is a very feisty gal who you will be very fond from the beginning. The entire book is written in the format of Emails between Mel and her coworkers, who include, her best friend, the food critic, her boss, the office gossip, a openly gay office employee, and others. She meets Mr. Right under the most unusual cirmcumstances and though they are both are crazy about the other, the relationship is strained from the beginning because the boyfriend has misrepresented himself from the beginning. The plot of the story leads the reader thru the development of their relationship, and the predicament of how they deal with the discovery of the initial deception. I highly recommend this book for a fun, refreshingly light hearted book with a good ending.

The Boy Next Door is a hilarious and very fast read. I literally read it in less than a day. The sequal (Boy Meets Girl) I did not find quite as good, but that may be because I had read this one first. The format (all told in email) was very different than other books I've read and this is definately one you want to read to take your mind of deep thoughts and intense novels. Meg Cabot's books just all seem to be very good and worth the money and time spent!

Very cute, and it's wonderful how things play out. This book is written in email format, with subject lines and the to from so you know who the emails are from, but after a few pages, you quickly pick up on the voices behind the emails and you stop looking at the to from section. This does involve a mystery and it is very very interesting to see how the suspects line up.

Another great story by the author of the Princess Diaries. This is one of her "grown up" books but it's clean so anyone can read it.

Great book! I love that the entire story is in e-mail format. It makes it a quick read but highly entertaining.

Love this book and the others in the boy series!!! The email style of writing is so great! You can read in short bursts if needed, but you won't want to. I found myself thinking I had only read a couple of pages but had actually read 20-30. Great writing style with a story that grabs you and won't let go.

This was another of Meg Cabot's books written entirely in e-mails. It was cute, and not completely predictable, which is a nice change of pace for chick lit. It was a nice quick read. Without the chapters, it's really easy to put the book down and then pick it back up on any page.

This book is such a fun read. I didn't know what to make of the email format at first, but after I while I started to like it. It was a really funny and entertaining story. I blasted through the book pretty quickly. It was like spying on people gossiping at the water cooler.

I thought this book was really cute! Good read and loved how all the correspondence was in email format. Reminds me of how much I gossip with my girlfriends like this!!! Good story!

A young NYC newspaper writer falls for her next-door neighbor's nephew, but he may not be who he appears to be. Told entirely by emails, letters and a newspaper story.

Very cute book! I loved the way it was written entirely in email form. That made it very fun to read. Very funny! Highly recommended if you want a fun book that entertains but doesn't require much thought. Great for the beach or just relaxing and vegging out.
What a clever book! This is a cute, funny, light romantic comedy-type novel all told through a series of emails. Just one more great book from Meg Cabot!

Very quick, fun read. This was a very enjoyable "fluff" book. Great book to read by the pool or at the beach. Also a great book for a long car/plane ride. You can get it done in literally a few hours.

Fantastic. Finished it and turned around to read it all over again.

what a fun read this was! Written in an unusual style (entirely through email correspondence), the story catches your interest early on and then doesn't let go. Both of my parents read it in one sitting. I had a lot of interruptions, but read it in only a few days, a first for me! Amusing, touching, and dramatic, all rolled into one book. Highly recommended!

I never read books in a series out of order, and since this time I did, I feel as if I ought to re-read Boy Meets Girl, even though I have 150+ other books on my to-be-read list. At any rate, this book was entertaining, but it lacked two enjoyable features of the other book: dessert recipes, and an evil boss. And since I read the second book three months ago, I am not entirely sure how many characters appeared in both books, which gave me an annoyingly vague sense of deja vu: I couldn't remember which characters I had met before, or what happened to them in the second book.

I questioned reading a book that was all in email format but it was great!! It was as if you are reading through someone's personal email box and that made the book very intriguing.

Great book and a quick read. It's perfect if you want something fun!!

Such a funny book! Quick read too, for when you need something to fill the time! LOVED it!
It was kind of weird, because it is written all in e-mail, but- after you get used to it, it was very good. I laughed out loud a couple of times.

This was a cute chick lit book. It's not REALLY that believeable, but it's cute. It's fast reading because it's all in email format.
Very cute and an easy read. It consists of emails between co-workers and friends.
What a fun read. The format took a little to get used to as it is all in emails. I would recomend this to any one who likes a light fun read.
This was a cute book. I liked the format it was in - kinda like reading someone else's emails. Of course, who doesn't love a happy ending?
Romance, murder, mistaken identity, all wrapped up into 389 pages of Meg Cabot's best.
This book is a quick read! very cute!
Fast, fun read. A little like reading someone's emails that have been left on the printer. I very much enjoyed the email style. I just put the next book in this series on my wish list - I hear it's more email, but also text messages, IMs, etc. I'm also going to look into other Meg Cabot books.
An easy read - finished it in a day or so - the only part I didn't like is that the entire book is emails written between the characters. Nice summer read though.
a very GOOD read
Another cute Meg Cabot story. Switched identities and more.
A very good read! Meg Cabot is a brillant author!
Excellent story with lots of humor. I love the email format the book is written in.
Cute book, all written in emails so it is a little hard to follow. Worth reading tho
once again - another entertaining meg cabot book...quick read.
In the mood for something different? This fun story is told entirely by the correspondence of the characters. Humor, drama, and romance! I enjoyed this very much.
Fast, funny read!
Another fun read from Meg Cabot, told through various emails. And like the rest, it ends happily, just as I wanted it to, and I feel happier for reading it. A little cheese, a lot of fluff, but a nice break from everything else going on in my life.
I wasn't sure I would like the e-mail format this was written but I really did! Fast enjoyable read! Moving on to the next one...
A fun quick read! This book is written in email format which was easy to read and as addictive as reading your own email!
A new age book written in all email format. Very funny
Author of "The Princess Diaries" with her debut book--adult contemp.
Amusing story. Made me laugh at times.
Very good book!
I really loved this book. It was a quick (1 day) read for me, but it was worth the read. It's written in email form and is very entertaining.
Different but good.
I flew through this book! I started reading and couldn't put it down! What a great book - I loved how the whole book is in email format. There are a bunch of laughs in this book.
Very Cute story about a girl who is looking for the man who
hurt her next door neighbor
It is a continuation ( sort of) to A Boy Meets Girl also by Meg Cabot

Cute chick-lit book. I actually laughed out loud more than a few times. :)
the story is told through a series of emails between the characters. the format just made it difficult for me to get into.
From the Kelly Ripa Book Club: A hilarious story of a New York gossip columnist with journalistic aspirations, romantic complications, and one very large problem: what to do with her comatose neighbor's Great Dane. For Melissa Fuller, the path to true love is riddled with a pretentious ex-boyfriend, a best friend who's marrying into a crazy Italian family, nosy coworkers, and a boss who might fire her at any minute. If that's not enough, there's the mystery of who bonked her elderly neighbor on the head, and whether the neighbor's nephew is the man of her dreams or just a bad nightmare. This zany romantic caper is truly a novel for the 21st century!
very good
This is one of the best books I have ever read!
loved it
This quick read is perfect for any chick lit fan. Cabot manages to take a difficult format and make it engaging, romantic, and interesting.
Nice easy read; great for the beach!

Fun chic lit!
Loved it! Made me belly laugh while reading it. Can't wait to start the next one!
Meg Cabot does it again. I loved this book.
From the author of The Princess Diaries comes her debut adult contemporary book. Includes humor, romance, cooking tips, Great Danes, heroines in peril, and dolphin-shaped driftwood sculptures.
very cute quick read, written in emails, text messages, notes, and lists.
Frivolous-but fun fiction...a fast addictive read.
Murder, romance and mistaken identity. What else do you need?
Very funny, written in emails, so no dialog in the book.
From Publishers Weekly
In her debut adult novel, Cabot (known for her extremely successful young adult fiction series the Princess Diaries, published under the name Meg Cabot) relies entirely on highly amusing e-mails to tell a fetching meet-cute story. New York City gossip columnist Melissa Fuller is known for being obsessive about Winona Ryder, dating the wrong men and being tardy for work. Arriving particularly late one morning, she explains to her colleagues at the New York Journal that she was detained by the attempted murder of her elderly next-door neighbor, Mrs. Friedlander, who is in a coma. Always the good girl, Mel has volunteered to take care of Mrs. Friedlander's many pets until the neighbor's nephew Max, a famous fashion photographer, can be reached. Her co-workers warn her about Max, a notorious lady's man. Contrary to the gossip, when she meets Max he is down to earth, funny and kind. Despite the strange fact that he likes to be called John and appears to be between photo shoots, she begins to date him and learns that he shares her love for Stephen King novels and natural disasters. It doesn't take long for her to fall head over heels, or for Mel's mom to write, "Get a ring on your finger before you uncross those legs, sweetie." When a mysterious e-mail arrives explaining that there is more to her beau than meets the eye, she is duly upset and uses the power of her pen to get even. But when Mrs. Friedlander's attacker returns, will Mel and Max be able to put their differences aside to catch a killer? Full of clever e-mail banter and tongue-in-cheek humor, this cheeky novel should be enjoyed in one sitting.

Who Is... The Boy Next Door? {Melissa Fuller desperately needed to know!} Is he really Max Friedlander, notoriously wild, famously self-centered fashion photographer-newphew of poor old comatose Mrs. Friedlandler? {But he seems so nice!} Has he come to relieve Mel of the burden of having to walk {or be walked by} Mrs. F's monster Great Dane, Paco-so maybe she can start to work on time and maybe keep her job at the New York Jpurnal. HE's not really trying to find out who assaulted his "aunt" in her own home and why, is he? All by himself? Isn't that dangerous? And how can one man be this gorgeous, funny, charming, fearless, sexy and mysterious? {And why the heck does he want Mel to call him "John"? Anyone with information, please email melissa.fuller@thenyjournal.com-and hurry... because she'd headed for BIG trouble!
It's a fun fast read. All done in e-mail format. The characters are quite intertaining.
I love Meg Cabot-- quick and easy read!
Absolutely LOVED this book. Literally applauded as I was reading it. Told completely in emails, it was a light, fun, quick, and fabulous read with likable characters and great style.
I always give books 100 pages. I began to read this series and it started out with an email. I started to read and I found the whole book was email correspondences back and forth. I was done by page 4. It may be a great book and series but reading emails in a book form is not for me.
