This was a great book. I got it because someone reviewed it and said it was like putting Stephanie Plum in the Mississippi Delta. The author Carolyn Haines does not have the sense of humor that Janet Evenovich posesses but is a fantastic storyteller nevertheless. The twist at the end was very unexpected. I throughly enjoyed this book.

First book in the "Bones" series featuring Sarah Booth Delaney. I have read all of them and each one gets better and better. Sarah Booth is a Southern Belle who has fallen on hard times and has to resort to working as a private detective in order to save the family home. There are some paranormal elements as she lives with Jitty, the ghost of a former slave. Jitty provides most of the comic relief in this series as she is overly concerned about Sarah Booth's love life. Funny and charming mystery.

These books can make you laugh and cry. Written with real "southernisms" you feel like your Grandma is going to be right in there cooking for you! I love how the character has been developed and each book just gets better. Independent female charcters make the book flow with wit and excitement.

This is a fascinating book with mystery, "woo-woo" and a bit of romance as well. Lots of interesting people in this book. The main character is Sarah Booth Delaney, who is about to lose her family place.

If you love The South or want to get a taste, you will love this entertaining southern bell mystery. It's the Mississippi Delta's answer to New Jersey's Stephanie Plumm series. Having grown up in L.A. (Lower Alabama)I felt right at home reading this book. The characters are colorful and interesting. I wanted to know them better. "Thank the Lord, sugar" the series has many episodes!

This quirky book, and its sequel, Buried Bones, really appealed to me. It features a totally believable but slightly daft modern southern belle protagonist and a ghost nanny popping in and out...

Haines puts together a truly fun read with a PI who is new to the role and a ghost that is more worried about her love life than haunting anything. This is the first of the series and a must read.

This book is a cross between MARY KAY ANDREWS'- SAVANNAH BLUES AND NANCY ATHERTON'S AUNT DIMITY. Southern belle tries to save her family home from developers and solve a 20 yr old murder mystery aided by 150 yr old family ghost.Very entertaining. Good ending with a twist.

I enjoyed this book but found it a little hard to "get into it"---after I did, it was a good read. Intricate tale and interesting characters.

This might be called the perfect book to take on a trip. It moves quite quickly and then can be put back in the "swap".

This was a good read. A small town "rich kid" down on her luck decides to become a PI and researches a few murders that took place two decades ago. Some interesting characters and a house ghost add to the mix for mystery and mayhem.

If only I hadn't kidnapped the dog...but the ransom paid the mortgage....Now I seem to be a private eye....I shouldn't have listened to that ghost....

Meet Sarah Booth Delaney...an unconventional Southern belle whose knack for uncovering the truth is about to make her the hottest detective in Zinnia, Mississippi...if it doesn't make her the deadest.

No self-respecting lady would allow herself to end up in Sarah Booth's situation. Unwed, unemployed, and over thirty, she's flat broke and about to lose the family plantation. Not to mention being haunted by the ghost of her great-great-grandmother's nanny, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of her sorry state--or to suggest a plan of action, like ransoming her friend's prize pooch to raise some cash.

But soon Sarah Booth's walk on the criminal side leads her deeper into unladylike territory, and she's hired to solve a murder. Did gorgeous, landed Hamilton Garrett V really kill his mother twenty years ago? And if so, what is Sarah Booth doing falling for this possible murderer? When she asks one too many questions and a new corpse turns up, she is suddenly a suspect herself...and Sarah Booth finds that digging up the bones of the past could leave her rolling over in her grave.
