I am not a thriller reader, I read urban fantasy for the most part. I have never read a book by James Rollins or Rebecca Cantrell until this one. And it worked for me. The world building was interesting and complete. The characters are sympathetic, the story was well plotted and it all made sense. I really liked it! I will be looking for another book in the series and I may very well try other books from these authors as they clearly know their stuff.

I have only read one James Rollins book before but I have read all of Rebecca Cantrell's Hannah Vogel series. It seems to me that their writing collaboration is really working well. This first book in The Order of The Sanguines series is a real page-turner. There is something for everyone in this book; historical fiction, mystery, thriller, archaeological digs, romance, vampires, religion and much more. At first, I was a little taken back by the vampire segments but it really works well with the religious aspect and I soon found myself engrossed and fascinated by the story. The characters are well developed and as you approach the end of the book, you are left with a feeling of wanting to follow them around for a little longer. I will definitely continue with this series and I anxiously await the second installment.

I average reading about 1 book a week. I have never not finished a book. This was my first. It was just ridiculous and I couldn't keep reading it. I have read other James Rollins novels in the past, but probably will not read any more in the future, particularly this series.

It was with some trepidation that I started this book. Although James Rollins is one of my favorite authors I didn't know what to expect from a partnership with Rebecca Cantrell. I expected a watered down or romanticized writing style.

Boy, was I wrong! This is one of the best yet from Rollins and I have to believe Ms. Cantrell had something to do with that.

The plot and storyline are original, the characters are deep and believable, and the action is incredible, cover to cover. I mean, vampires working for the catholic church... wow.

I'll say no more because I don't want to give any more away but if you like James Rollins read this book.

Great read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Exciting characters; exciting plot. If I had anything against the poor. It seems to me like it was written as if there would be a second or a series of books. To rushed during the last pages, and too many things left unresolved. Neither of these is a reason not to read it, though, as it's a terrific standalone book by itself.

This book was so great. I cried when so much though out the book. I have been reading James Rollins books for awhile now and this book did not disappoint. It is about something that has been a topic of interest for a very long time. I hope the next book comes out soon. This is the first time I have read a book by Rebecca Cantrell but I intent to read more.

Okay, I will start by saying I love James Rollins books. Until now. This book was a major disappointment. I won't be a spoiler but I will warn those with deep Christian beliefs that you will find this book blasphemous. That aside, the story is so far out there that it is ridiculous. I was deep into the book when things started to fall apart for me. By then I was committed to finish it. If I had known which way the religious information was going, I never would have read it. It also is a book in a series and I had no real finish to this book. I will not read the next one. Perhaps it was the incorrect religious info that turned me so against it. Yes, but also the over the edge, off the chain plot. I like wild plots but this was just too much. Perhaps Rollins doesn't need to write with another person? Something went terribly askew. Rollins jumping on the supernatural monster bandwagon, I guess. He's better than that. Shame.
