A great read. Shows a bit more maturity in the series.
Sara Paretsky has created a character over twelve books VI Warshawski who just keeps getting better and better. VI continues to take on the establishment in this book about the darker aspects of the Patriot Act. The case crosses 4 generations in one family.
Outstanding - my 1st Paretsky and she's right up there with the best of them: Dennis Lehane, Jas. Lee Burke, T. Jefferson Parker, Michael Connelly. Treat yourself to this one.

I enjoy V.I., her saviness, her persistance and her descriptions of the world around her. In this addition, she struggles to solve a murder that the police aren't convinced was a murder. It leads her down a historical path of the 1930s Federal Negro Theater Project and the McCarthy era blacklisting. The mystery remains mostly unsolvable until the very end. While I enjoy Paretsky's novels, this one felt like a forum to express her politics.
Paretsky's V.I. Warshawski series is among the finest in detective fiction and this book maintains that standard. Thoroughly recommended!
