This book, this series ROCKED!!!! Its insane the way Richard Laymon allows you to see the whole grisly scene, uncensored!! These books are for true horror fans, who love monsters, blood, sex, violence, and humor all wrapped up as one! LOVED IT!

Pretty intense making it a fast read. After reading it in one night, I immediately ordered The Midnight Tour which is a continuation. He has a way of writing that when thinking back to the book, it makes you wonder if you read it or watched it. You can vividly see all the details.

One of R. Laymon's better books. Not for the sqeamish - it has some rather graphic violence and sex in it, but if you want a good scare, it'll keep you turning pages to the end.

Much better then The Cellar, which was the first book in this series. I thought The Cellar was just so-so and I debated on even reading this book, but I'm very glad I did. It was a very fast read, I read it in one night and have already ordered the next book in the series.

This book was better than The Cellar, which is the firs book in this series. It was action packed from the start. There is a lot of sexual situations, so beware, but at least there is no little girl in this one. I would recommend it to the non-squemish.

The sex with young girls content was a bit much for me as it remained a constant throughout the book and I pretty much "got the point" after the second time...book was pretty good overall and creepy as I expected and was great for the most part....but the young girls stuff...no. Lots of skimming.

Another spooky one was Laymon. If you read, "The Cellar:, you already know the story of Beast house. If you aren't familiar with it, give this one a try..

The 'beast' is still in the house waiting and waiting.

Well written, scary, a thriller every page, pages keep turning and turning until you're at the end--wow--where did the time go?

I can actually say, very interesting. And very disturbing lol. I never had a problem wanting to find out what happened next, just finding the time to read it. I was shocked at the ending, and felt it finished off pretty good. Make you want to see if there really is a "beast house" out in California...

I found this to be a very quick read - but I read about a third of it before any real action started. Typical Layman with lots of gore and sex.

After reading The Cellar, this book was a disappointment. It starts out just like The Cellar, with two women traveling together being harassed by a lone male driver. After that, the rest of the book is spent laying the foundation for getting all of the main characters into the Beast House. Unable to come up with a good premise, the author settles for a ludicrous one. And unlike The Cellar, this ending was pretty predictable.

Laymon is hit or miss for me. The Traveling Vampire Show is one of my favorite books despite the fact that nothing all that exciting happens until the very end. It's the characters in that book that hooked me.

The Beast House however doesn't feature characters I can latch onto in any way. There is a true-crime/horror writer and his protege attempting to steal a valuable diary from a buxom teenager and two ditsy women who are supposedly librarians who decide it will be a good idea to look up an old lover named Dan whom they haven't seen in five years . Who cares if he's married or worse yet bald and paunchy? They're supposed to be attending a librarian's convention in the town anyway and head out on a road trip wearing too tight t-shirts which attract the attention of every redneck with rape on his mind. Their virtue (ha, ha) is saved when two hunky young guys with absolutely nothing better to do come to their rescue. They all hit it off immediately, want to jump each others bones as well as become inseparable best buds. Awww. But wait! There will be no happily ever after for these dimwits. This is a Laymon novel not a romance. The chicks are still looking for Dan and their "search" for him leads them to the Beast House where the beast from The Cellar supposedly resides. I hope they all get boiled and eaten at this point because I am thoroughly bored. I'm quite a bit into this book and nothing at all has happened besides a little boob grabbing and some t-shirt ripping.

A little later: A few deaths have occurred and there is a clear distinction between the bad and the good characters but I'm still at the point where I could care less about any of them.

I have finally finished but admit to doing a lot of skimming to get through it. The majority of the book was deadly dull as we followed the aimless characters around as they looked for spooks and admired each others bums. A little action happens towards the end but it wasn't exciting enough to make up for the rest of the book. My husband says the last book in the series is better but I'm not sure I believe him.

The only thing scary about this book bad it is. There's a cheesy, unrealistic romance between two shallow, boring characters (who fall madly in love after knowing each other all of 18 hours). Add to that a few sex scenes, a ridiculous number of references to nipples and monster cocks (literally, the cock of an actual monster), and repeated allusions to girls being raped by said monster cock. All followed by the most ridiculous ending ever.

Basically, if you want some soft core monster porn, definitely check this book out. But if you're looking for something that's actually SCARY or well-written, look elsewhere.
