Thoughts to Ponder

Who am I when...
my feet won't keep time with the music,
the numbers don't add up,
people don't return my phone calls,
and bread no longer rises in my kitchen.

Who am I when...
my resume begins to look more like fiction than reality,
my bank account diminishes with no returns,
my worldly possessions are discarded at the curb , and
all I have and need fits into one room,

Who am I when...
my stories trail off in conversation,
my mind is sharp and my body won't cooperate,
the names in my phone book read more as a dearly departed list
and, my purpose has to do more with presence than action.

I am....
the memories I keep, the smile on my face,
the prayers in my heart and most of all a
cherished, precious, child of God.
