What I found in the junk drawer

I have a junk drawer in the kitchen
Containing things of all descriptions
Look inside at a big jumble
We can only hope there’s nothing fungal

scissors and an ice cream scoop
a can opener, a loop-dee-loop
a lot of orphaned playing cards
and push pins so be on your guard
candles, corkscrews, blender blades
pens for when the memory fades
pencils, markers, sticky notes
fragment of ceramic boat
twist ties and dead batteries
small gadgets to strain your tea
large plastic ring of unknown use
highlighters of goose or moose
potato brush, egg separator
soon we’ll find an alligator

There’s a whole bunch of other stuff
Flotsam, jetsam, lots of fluff
But inside that humble jumble
At least I know there’s nothing fungal!
