Uneven characterization and writing. This book is more Benny Hill than an homage to Austen. I don't recommend this book to fans of Pride and Prejudice because it doesn't even try to make the scenarios leading up to the changing of the original plotline even remotely plausible. The way things get put right are even less plausible. If one wants a good tale of a book being changed after someone takes a vacation in its plot, I suggest Jasper Fforde's Eyre Affair and its sequels.
