Merit and the newly resurrected Ethan are pursuing Mallory, hoping to stop her from getting her hands on the Maleficium, a book of spells that will unleash evil on the world. But when they finally catch up with her, they find that Mallory isn't their only problem. Mayor Seth Tate wants the book too, and his powers make Mallory look like a beginner. As Merit and Ethan work together, they must use all of their cunning to stop an enemy that is bigger than both of them.
This addition to the Chicagoland Vampire series was a mixed bag for me. I'm not a fan of Mallory and was hoping we'd see some resolution to her storyline. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I was also very annoyed with a decision Ethan makes which causes his on-again/off-again relationship with Merit to once again be off. I just wanted to slap some sense into him. On the plus side, I liked the addition of a new sorcerer named Paige. I also enjoyed the storyline involving the GP making a decision on the future of Cadogen House. That story makes me anxious to get to the next book. My rating: 4 Stars.
