Not saying you have to read the first books in the series but this book does refer back to previous events in prior books that can be confusing as they are not explained in great detail. The books carries four subplots that never get in the way of each other and all three work well within the story to reinforce each other. Three modern story lines and one setup story happening in the late Pleistocene period of history. Once the carnage from the Megs (yes, multiple Megs, hence the three modern story lines)attacks start it is one attack after another for the entire book, surprisingly it doesn't get repetitious as each attack is a mini-story unto itself. Good read, looking forward to my next book by the author.
