I have to say that this is one of the best books I have ever read. The beginning of the book goes over background information of Marcus and the rest of his team. This information gave me a better understanding of the type of men who's lives were taken on that Afgan mountain. (Notice I say "taken"...some would say "gave" their life. These men did not give their lives for this country...their lives were definitely TAKEN.) This has to be the most gut wrenching story I have ever read. I absolutely felt like I was there, shoulder to shoulder, with Marcus and his team. From SEALs training to the battle in Hindu Kush. I read the book in two days. I couldn't put it down and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since I've finished it. I highly recommend this book to every American.
I have been following the recent story of the murder of Marcus's dog he received during rehab. This man suffered the loss of his entire team, the entire rescue team and near fatal injuries himself. Now, he has lost the one other thing that meant so much to him. "DASY", his yellow lab (named for the members of his team) he received during rehab. Heartless, cowardice, low-life thugs shot and killed his dog (along with many other dogs) for the fun of it. Marcus sprang into action and chased them down (at over 100mph) and caught them! I know he is going through a tuff time right now and probably reliving the nightmare of events in Afganistan, but I hope that when the dust settles and the legal process is over he decides to write another book. He is a talented writer and DASY's story needs to be told!
