Found it to be a quick read and an education on the social strata in Louisiana regarding people of varying degrees of color as it was shortly before the Civil War and after. Fascinating to see how the author weaves threads of her ancestry into a satisfying novel that flows from one generation to the next without feeling like a monotone history lesson.
