Not your typical Robin Cook book! If you're familiar with Cook's writings, you know that he writes some fantastic "Medical Thrillers" (Vector, Shock, Mindbend). This book IS NOT a medical thriller - it seems that Cook wanted to show his SF talents! If you look at some of the reviews on Amazon for this book, you'll be amazed at the total difference in opinions - some people "loved" it, and others "hated" it - there didn't seem to be any middle ground on this one. I guess You'll have to decide for yourself!!! As for me, as a fan of Cook, I enjoyed the departure! I'll grant you, the story line is a little on the short side of plausibility for me. This book doesn't even skirt the edges of reality! Maybe that's what made it a good listen for me. A for of escapism! Sometimes I get tired of listening to books, and doing a mental debate with myself over if the descriptions of technical descriptions are correct. This book just lets you let go of your mental foibles and enjoy it for what it is - A S/F Fantasy/Thriller/Mystery! Cook is a great writer, and I usually pick up his audios without even reading the synopsis on the box, 'cuz I know the book will be worth listening to - this one was! I won't give away the plot - that's the most exciting thing! But I will say that the characters are believable, the level of excitement is there, the suspense is there, and vivid descriptions of people and locations are colorful and vivid - I just want to know where I can get a jar of that "Creme"!Enjoy it!
