"In my dreams, I fly..."

This was long a personal quote of mine - this idea of ultimate freedom. It was rather shocking when I found that exact quote and FEELING so gorgeously executed in the opening pages of this book. It took my breath away.

And so it starts, exactly with that quote.

The story portrays a "Superman" named Samaritan - who spends every moment of his waking life in a hysterical race to save lives the world over. Never allowing himself the simple pleasure of floating on a breeze, much less anything else. His life is a Hell. His sense of responsibility, choking. And so he goes, saving people, saving people, saving people. Travelling at hyper speed to the point of exhaustion and beyond, where he finally , in sleep, achieves the abandon to say...

"In my dreams, I fly..."

Astro City is the story of several such beings, written and drawn by individuals who have become the tops in this field. Busiek, Anderson, and especially Alex Ross. This series is required reading, period. Whether you are a fan of the genre, a potential writer or artist, this is something that you MUST have in your library. The ENTIRE compact series.
