In the first four of this six book series, "John Madden" confronts heinous murders. Each has a startling conclusion. But you learn not to make an early guess as to the perpetrator and his demise.

This fourth book was very different. Maddan, long separated from Scotland Yard, assists in the investigation of a murder committed many years before. This so Scotland Yard can make the decision as to whether it should become officially involved.

Based on my experience reading the first three books, I knew not to take the suspects at face value. And sure enough.....

Unfortunately, there is only one more book in this excellent series spanning from just after World War I to post-World War II. The author does an outstanding job of conveying how it was to live in Britain during that period.
