First in a series. When you write a horse-racing mystery, you're going to get compared to Dick Francis. Maybe it should be called "Francis's Law"? I haven't yet found any to compare to him, but this is pretty good. It's got a sympathetic female jockey and some interesting and colorful characters. The horsey stuff is spot on and I'm assuming the racing practices are too. Nikki is a little too gullible for her own good, which I thought interesting considering her background. The mystery is straightforward - doesn't seem like the author meant it to be a puzzle, but that's fine, it moves along at a steady pace with a burst of speed at the end (I had to do that, sorry).. There's maybe what's supposed to be a little twist at the end regarding one of the characters, but pretty much anyone can see that coming. Good characters, pretty good dialogue, nice setting. Think I'll put the others on my list.
