Kara Whittenbrook had a well-rounded upbringing that comes from having money. Her parents were famous environmentalists that had Kara brushing elbows with celebrities as well as roughing it in Brazil. When her parents unexpectedly die in a plane crash, Kara is an heiress left all alone, until she discovers adoption papers in an old chest.

Her search takes her to a cattle ranch in Florida.
Ben Thocco owns the ranch in Florida and most of his help is mentally challenged, including his little brother Joey. Kara's parents, Mac and Lilly, work for him. They had never told Ben they had a child, so Kara's sudden appearance is surprising. Kara falls in love with her real parents, and with Ben, even though he is holding back. He just isn't ready to share his past with her yet. His priority is taking care of his family and ranch. But love works in its own way, and they will make their own path.

A GENTLE RAIN is a story of family. Filled with heart, humor, and romance, I was entranced as I came to know so many wonderful characters. Deborah Smith has woven a magical book. Written in a unique style, from the perspective of different characters in the story, engages you immediately and doesn't let go until the end. I quite enjoyed it!
