Betrothed as children, meeting as children, they both distrusted and disliked each other. Years later, their first meeting is still keeping them apart. When his father insists that he collect his bride-to-be, Wulfric agrees, and rides to her father's keep. Milisant has been allowed to dress as a boy, ride as a boy, and hunt as a boy, and fight as a boy, and knows almost no lady-like behavior. Wulfric is appalled, and doesn't know how she will be able to perform her duties as his wife, and hopes that if he takes her home to his mother, that she may be able to learn. But, someone is trying to kill Milisant before the wedding can take place.
