A sweet tale of the healing powers of love. A romance grows between two 60-somethings -- one a stroke-victim, as they garden together. Both had had unsuccessful marriages previously; one ending in divorce between two people who should never have married and the other ending with the death of an alcoholic partner after decades of unhappiness.

Well written, with lots of allegories involving plants -- a gardener's delight. Highly entertaining -- could not put it down and I read this in one sitting.

"A great romance of a novel" -- Los Angeles Times
"A radiant tale of second chances" -- Publishers Weekly (starred review)
"A novel for grownups, for readers who care about the English language, who hunger for a story about people we come to know -- a little -- and care about -- a lot -- and miss when we finish the book and return, hugely enriched, to our various realities," -- Alexandra Ripley, author of "Scarlett"
