If you read the reviews on the cover of this book, you have to wonder what the reviewers might say about a book which was actually well written. The plot is simple, the characters are two dimensional and you have to stretch your belief to accept some of the events which take place.
In other words, this is not "... one of the most exciting---and critically acclaimed---adventure novels of our time."
Having said that, it is a good sea story, which I enjoyed, even though I instinctively knew how it would end. Still, I can only describe this book as a very wordy, Young Adult adventure novel. My personal opinion is if the senior author wasn't a well-known actor, the praise for the book would have been far less enthusiastic.
