Pud stood bny the side of the road. I can do it, she thought. I'll hitch with people like me and avoid the creepy ones. Easy. I know how to tell the difference and can take care of myself.
Pud was teachikng her father a lesson. Canceling their backpacking trip for a very ikmportant business trip definitely had been a put-down. "His trips always come first," Pud angrily told herself. "Well, I'll show him what I think of his sacred pursuit of money. I'll spend the airfare and hitchhike home."
When Pud takes to the highway, she learns that people are not alwaYs what they seem--a discovery that shatters her self-confidence, dangerously propelling her down raods she would rather never have known.
