Rosemary and Rue is the first book in the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire.

October "Toby" Daye is a private investigator who just happens to be half fae, Daoine Sidhe. Her mother, Amandine, is one of the most powerful of the Daoine Sidhe and her father is human. Toby attempts to balance a life and family until one day when a mission goes wrong. While recovering from this mission Toby tries to shun the fae world, only thing is...they don't want to be shunned. Approached by a high ranking member of the fae, Toby is forced back into their world in order to solve a mystery. This mystery takes her down dangerous roads filled with friends and enemies.

This is a wonderful start for a very interesting series, I found the main character very real and look forward to seeing her development over the series. I will say that the series is filed with what seems is a large amount of characters, however I found that once I figured out who everyone was the characters worked well together. One thing I really liked was that I was surprised at the ending, I did not see/predict who the "bad person" was.
