Francis, Viscount Rohan, is known in Paris for a life of excess and debauchery. He is hosting a party for his hedonistic friends when Elinor Harriman shows up looking for her mother who has ran away with the few coins her family has left. Bored with the party, Rohan is immediately intrigued by her and decides to find out more about Elinor. He finds that she lives in poverty with a younger sister and an abusive mother. Soon he is pursuing Elinor at all costs.

This is the first book in Anne Stuart's House of Rohan series and I found it interesting. I've always enjoyed Stuart's writing style and the pacing of her stories. Francis is a dark hero who is bored with his life. Elinor is very strong woman who will do anything to protective her sister, Lydia. I thought the romance in his book was just OK. I had a hard time believing Elinor would do a 180 degree turnaround toward the hero.

I did enjoy the secondary story about Rohan's friend, Charles and Elinor's sister, Lydia. I wish we would have seen more of them in this book. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
