this is the 3rd of so far 10 books, set in the late 1300's york england. you don't have to be a history buff to enjoy the story. I like that you are taken slowly into their time, their religious beliefs, you will recognize some. some olde english is used but not so much that it is difficult to read.
this is about a girl that had taken vows for a religious life but was not happy in doing so. she ran away, taking a relic with her. a no-no that would keep her from heaven. she is thought dead, but after a yr she turns up at the last known house she was in, 'wanting the relic she had left there and saying she was risen from the grave'.
owen archer is sent to investigate. he learns the whole story but it takes awhile. he has help from his wife, adopted son, brothers, nuns among others. many of the same characters that were in the first 2 books return. fun to revisit with them.
I am on book 7 now.
I would suggest you read in order starting at book 1 as it sets up many of the recuring people you will see even if they are not in everyone. some come back when you least expect it.
a very good series.I would encourage teens to read as well, but it is aimed at adults.
