My second book by Christina Skye...
The best word to describe this?
GAH!
Thank (insert your chosen deity here) that's it's fianlly over. I made myself finish this one, and the fact that I could actually make it to the end is one of it's few decent points. (which is unfortunate as the cover is so nice (i.e drool worthy :p ) The only other good points? There's a pretty decent action scene in the last 3rd of the book (though the surprise ending of it sort of annoyed me), and things didn't go like I thought they would. Oh and the h is not TSTL which is always a plus.
Otherwise To Catch a thief has a full litany faults:
The transitions were bad. They felt choppy, so much so that going from one scene to the next, I had to re-read the end of the previous scene to make sure I hadn't missed anything!
Also the story tended to drag in places. And the main characters change from being Anti-relationship to wanting a long term one, wasn't believable. It felt like neither the heroine nor the Hero really thought about it, but figured they'd been unwilling to commit for long enough, and now (after they'd 'slept' together, of course) was as good a time as any to want to settle down. It didn't really seem to have anything to do with how they felt about each other. And they ended up separated for a good chunk of the story (at least 50 pages or so) which was also the slowest moving part of the story.
Also the dialogue seemed disingenuous. And there's a ghost (from previous Draycott Books, I think) that didn't really serve much of purpose.
And Ms Skye has an annoying habit of constantly referring to her characters by both their first and last names.
So I'm done. Usually it's 3 strikes before I write an author off, but I don't think 'll be able to make it through another of CS's books... esp if it's anything like this one!
