Overall I am not quite sure how best to summarize this book. I was going to put together a quirky little paragraph about the plot and characters and leave it on a cliffhanger that makes you want to pick this up tomorrow, but then I realized I just didn't love it enough to do that! I wanted to, because I have heard such wonderful things about Heather Graham. This was a decent book, a good introduction to the author, and entertaining enough to keep me reading. But that was about where the greatness ended. It had a very good plot, potentially. Someone is slaughtering people in Salem, and the cops have arrested a boy found covered in the victim's blood. Obviously everyone assumes he is guilty, except Jenna who is a paranormal investigator with the FBI and Sam a hotshot attorney who agrees to be his defense lawyer. They team up together, and naturally fall in bed together by the midpoint of the book, to solve this crime and prove that the boy is innocent.

The mystery was good, the circumstances were good, and the characters were good...so why do I feel so ambivalent about this novel? One thing. I got sick and tired of hearing endless pages of how this situation was exactly like what happened during the Salem witch trials and how it was so sad because society should have come so far since then. Seriously, half the book followed this vein and I felt that it could have been better spent formulating the plots and sending me on a merry chase after a killer. At the end I felt like the solution to the mystery was shoved into my face with little lead up to it, and it was anticlimactic for that reason. As long as the next book doesn't focus so much on comparing the plot to something else and more time actually creating a plot then I will gladly give Heather Graham a five star rating.
