Whoa. I can't even imagine having the patience and stamina to take on making one of Velda's quilts. These quilts are up to 15 feet across, and are composed of thousands upon thousands of tiny, intricate appliqued layers. And all this work comes AFTER she hand-dyes, bleaches, and inks the fabrics to look the way she wants them. And it is FOLLOWED by what must be thousands of hours of intricate hand quilting. These projects make counted cross stitch look speedy.

The result of all this effort is truly stunning art quilts. I've seen some of Velda's works showcased in other books, but I didn't realize the scope of the work involved. A highly recommended quilt book. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because it is so far removed from anything the average person can achieve that I didn't find it inspirational--simply daunting!
