I am a fan of the authors and the series in general. The entire series is far from the typical formula detective novel, so if you are looking for that format this book isn't for you. This is not a quick read.

I would most closely associate this series with Sherlock and Holmes, without the drugs, and set in modern time. Pendergast is a super sleuth, uber intelligent, and always cool and prepared. There is nothing realistic about this character, but he is enjoyable.

This series are well written with great detail and interesting, well defined characters. They all mix real science with a bit of the paranormal. This book is no exception. I recommend that you read the entire series in order so that you can appreciate the evolution of the characters.

This book was my third favorite in the 11 books of the series. It is a great and memorable book. Just don't expect the pedestrian.
