Well...I liked the whole premise - what if evolution could happen in giant leaps? It's nice to have a follow-up to Darwin's Radio as you do wonder what happens to Stella, Kaye and Mitch. But this book is really, really slow. Bear has about five different POVs going in this story and the only one that isn't deadly dull is Stella's. It has to be hard to interject a lot of technical detail about viruses and make it interesting, and Bear doesn't manage it. And what was with that God thing near the end? Unnecessary plot complication.
