A supernatural romance about two teens, in the vein of Twilight, but also a commentary on small town, Southern life in Gatlin, SC. There are spell casters and other supernatural goings-on, and the story flows well. The surprises are minimal, but there are some minor ones that end up advancing the story well.

If you saw the movie adaptation, you'll be a little more surprised. As usual, the movie picks-and-chooses the scenes it wants to show, and changes some plot points around. But if you enjoyed the movie, don't let that stop you from reading the book; as usual, the book was more engaging than the movie.
