I've never read a more interesting Native American book. Black Elk was right there in the middle of history with Wounded Knee and Custer and Crazy Horse! What a fascinating read from an eye witness to events we all learn about in elementary school. What a sad commentary on the treatment of a conquering race to a native population.

This book would be an excellent addition to any study program of Native Americans or History of the American West. Anyone who enjoys reading about Native American culture and ceremonies would also enjoy this book.
