Helpful Score: 1
Whenever a book is this heavily hyped, I often expect to be somewhat disappointed. A friend of mine observed that I can't stand horror movies, so why did I want to read this book about vampires?
Well, Anne Rice, move over! Not only is this a well-crafted debut novel, it is a superb love story with an emphasis on suspense but certainly no gratuitous gore. It would work as simply an inter-racial love story on so many levels.
I was expecting some light reading and what I got was a page turner that had me laughing some and sobbing more. This book gripped me until I found I could not put it down and go to bed, and it was finished in the early morning. Anything read in a single sitting is a tribute to the author's craft.
Few series become annual re-reads for me--LOTR, Outlander, Harry Potter, and now, the Twilight series. New Dawn, here I come!
