Longfellow called the stars the forget me nots of the angels, and many quilted stars, made by a host of quilting angels, have come to reside in the pages of 'Great American Quilts 1990'.

"Starmakers," our special chapter for 1990, features 12 out of this world star quilts. There are summer stars, starflowers, and starry castles to name a few, just wating to light up your home. For special effects, their starlight merges with the brightness of still more stars, which grace the pages of other quiltmaking chapers - "Quilts Across America", "Traditions in Quilting", and "Bee Quilters". These chapers are teeming with fields of star quilts to make. But, if your neck aches from too much stargazing, there are plenty of quilts, such as 'Williamsburg Palm', 'Migration', 'Comical Country', and 'Cherry', to bring your focus back to earth. And take a side trip through our museum of quilted one of a kinds in "Designer Gallery" and receive an outpouring of inspiration.

Sprinkled among our quilting angels and quilted stars are tidbits of information about quilt documentation and trianglular template placement on striped fabrics. We've peeked at the backs of our quilts to emphasize the importance of quilt documentation. Review the paragraph below and then take a glimpse at the inscriptions made by the quiltmakers in this book.

Besides these, we have our must read Preliminary Instructions and a feature on backing, that often neglected and unsung hero of quiltmaking.
