Imagine you are a young woman, out for the evening, having fun, drinking, meeting someone you go home with.....and the next morning you wake up after having been buried alive
This is the 2nd of a series featuring DI Mike Lockyer and DS Jane Bennett. DI Lockyer is back to work after having several weeks off due to the stress of his last case. He is somewhat out of it, leaving DS Bennett to take on the additional work load.
When the grave is accidentally found ... and the body identified, it leads to a man who was also questioned in another murdered girl 6 years earlier. Adding to the stress for Bennett, one of her colleagues and friends who is now retired, goes missing.
The author weaves all these story lines seamlessly, leaving nothing unsaid or undone.
There was a very short time where I was a little tired of seeing how Lockyer projected his self-pity onto his staff. Thankfully, it really was short-lived and the story got back on track and kept me as entertained as the first of the series did.
I'm hoping the series continues. The characters are real and the situations that arise make for some very good reading.
