In South Texas, Janis Joplin was held up as "what happens when you go to California." The conservative people here did not understand her or what she wanted to do. This book emphasized that Janis did it her way. Of course, she burned out quickly and was dead at twenty-seven.
I remember being shocked when I saw the sound coming out of the unusually-dressed person on stage. She was unlike anyone I'd heard before; her renditions were always soulful as if she were sharing her most sacred thoughts and emotions.
She was often quoted as saying that she shared her soul on stage and then went home alone. She was desperately seeking a soulmate but died while trying to replace her neediness with drugs and alcohol.
I was unaware she'd been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in 1995) until I read this ebook. I read elsewhere that her parents accepted the award for her. This was a great story with lots of facts and info that told her story without dragging it down with too much extra data.
